Born in New York City, Marty received a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Bernard M Baruch School of Business and Public Administration at City College of New York. While working as Business Manager of the school newspaper he met his future wife, Ina Cohen. He served in the Army Reserve and began working as an accountant in NYC. In 1965 he and his family moved to Tonawanda. Eventually he started his own accounting practice and in 1975 they relocated to Amherst.
He served as chairman of many Temple Shaarey Zedek committees as well as being a past president. He was president of the Hebrew Benevolent Loan Association, treasurer of Temple Shaarey Zedek Housing Corp and a member of the advisory counsel of the Harlem-Kensington-Cleveland Business Association. Previously he served as treasurer of Sheehan Memorial Hospital and was a volunteer and served on the boards of numerous other religious and community organizations.
Marty had 5 children: Harvey, Rochelle, Steven, Howard and Eric, 9 grandchildren: Marc, Melanie, Ariel, Gavriela, Hannah, Benjamin, Michael, Eli, and Leo and 3 great grandchildren: Sirena, Martin and Noah.
