Lois M. Weinstein

Born in 1946 to Ruth and Al Miller, Lois grew up in Eggertsville and was a graduate of Amherst High School. In 1966, she married Dr. Barry A. Weinstein. She graduated Buffalo State College with a degree in teaching and worked briefly as a 5th grade teacher in the Ken Ton School District. After taking a decade off to raise her four daughters, Pamela (Gewurz), Naomi, Tamara and Alisa, Lois worked as the Executive Director of the Bureau of Jewish Education and the High School of Jewish Studies. She subsequently became the Director of the Holocaust Resource Center of Buffalo, where she notably organized and brought the traveling Anne Frank exhibit to Buffalo. Lois later wrote a book titled, “How to Explain Christmas to the Jewish Child” as a resource guide to help Jewish parents answer questions about Christmas. In retirement, Lois earned the designation, “Master Gardener” from Cornell Cooperative Extension. She planted and maintained an exquisite English garden in her front yard for years. Lois had 7 grandchildren – Jacob, Rachel, Zachary, Addison, Austin, Devin and Lila.
